Sweet And Sour Pearls (onions)

Ingredients

- 8 cups pearl onions (4 10 oz packages)
- 1 teaspoon orange rind, grated
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup raisins
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 1 garlic clove, slivered
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons water
Recipe
- 1 cover onions with boiling water in a heatproof bowl and let stand for 30 seconds.
- 2 drain and peel.
- 3 combine onions, orange rind, bay leaf, 1 cup water, raisins, oil, vinegar, tomato paste, salt, pepper and garlic in slow cooker (slow cooker should be 1/2 to 3/4 full).
- 4 cover and cook on low for 6 hours or until onions are tender.
- 5 discard bay leaf.
- 6 mix cornstarch with 2 tbsp water and stir into slow cooker.
- 7 cover and cook on high for 10 minutes or until thickened.
